As I mentioned yesterday, I’m interested in totally redesigning my weblog. In my spare time I’ve take to replicating Mark’s amazing site design.
I’m still awaiting his permission before making it live, but I do currently have a fully functional version of the simplified TooMuchSexy.blog. It has some modifications here and there and I do hope to differentiate it some more from the original design.
I’m curious how people like it so far. I really like the lack of distractions, it gets you straight to the point and there is nothing to busy your eyes over; no stagnant photoblog, no meaningless site statistics. It also loads a lot faster.
Assuming Mark okay’s me using his site design I plan on going live with it very soon.

Hmm. I really like the readability and the cleanness. It does seem to lack something, however, that your current design has: an overview of posts. On the current design, it’s very clear how posts are classified and grouped, and I can tell at a glance how often you post, when things were posted, etc. Each post seems like a solid object in a larger hierarchy.
With the new design, it seems much easier to lose track of a post. It’s more of a continuous stream where each post just sort fits into the flow - no real infrastructure to speak of.
Not to say that one is better than the other, but they’re definitely very different approaches.

Mark has okay’d my usage of his design so I will be implementing it into the live page later today or tomorrow.
He has updated his own site slightly to present an archive on the first page. When I was looking at his design yesterday he only had a single entry on the front page. I preferred having more content per page which is why I have 10 entries on the front page, I assumed the “§” delimited entries well enough but I did not think about the lack of a date.
Dates and categories are on the top of individual archive pages. I will look into perhaps displaying an archive on the main page or presenting more entry information.
Thanks for the input. It’s on my todo list now, right next to a new favicon.

I agree with Arthur. The site seems to just be lacking in something. I think it could be a more attractive css theme and adding a few features. Right now, it’s a clean site that has informative articles. Many users may be swayed away from your site just on appearance alone. Also, trying to find an article can be very difficult when having such a simple design. Maybe adding some type of search functionality or organize the articles into categories. I know this is taking you back to how the site looked before, but it really makes it convenient for people first coming to you site. Hopefully these comments help in your site design.
