I’m looking to buy a fitness machine for the house. My ideal first choice would be a Bowflex Treadclimber, however the least expensive model, the TC1000, costs $1,799.

Looking at less expensive options I’ve found the NordicTrack Elliptical ASR 630, and the NordicTrack Commercial Elliptical 1300. They cost a respective $499, and $799.

I like the ASR 630 a lot, it has some nice iPod integration and really seems like a great buy, but its reviews seem pretty mixed. The Elliptical 1300 seems pretty straightforward and while it lacks features it looks pretty sturdy and built to last.

Does anyone have any experience with any of these fitness machines. How about other options? I’m looking for some good low-impact cardio so treadmills are a bit out of the question.

Any recommendations or advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

1. I use a elliptical cross trainer.  It is not as hard on me as a tread mill was.  My daughter got one first and loved hers so I went over to her house a few times to see if I could use one.  Of course I had to start out real slow because I was afraid I’d hurt my knees or something as I’m in my 60’s.  I’m now up to 30 minutes a day and feel great.  I think whatever you decide to do its starting out slow and working your self up is the secret.

1. You could save money by going through Amazon instead of Bowflex’s official site. For example, Amazon has the Treadclimber Tc1000 for $999 (instead of $1799). In most cases you can also get free shipping which could save you an additional $199+.
