Hollywood hunks including Jude Law, Robert Downey, Jr. and Laurence Fishburne amazed artist Sam Taylor-Wood with their heart-felt sobs for her bizarre new exhibition, Crying Men.

The photographer asked the actors to produce real tears for a series of images which she hopes capture the vulnerable sides of the movie stars. She is particularly proud of pictures of the Cold Mountain hunk weeping in a fetal position and a portrait of Reservoir Dogs star Michael Madsen betraying his hard-man image by crying hysterically.

Taylor-Wood explains, “Some of the men cried before I even finished loading the camera, but others found it really difficult. People can decide for themselves which they think are the authentic tears and which they think are fake. It’s about the idea of taking these big, masculine men and showing a different side

1. Wow, those pictures make me want to cry for no reason.. everyone just looks so sad.  Robin Williams is way too hairy for his own good.  It’s still kind of hot, but I think it’s just too much— yarks!

1. These shots blurs the line between acting and reality; surely someone acting the part of someone who is crying, is actually crying. Perhaps that’s why they’re so powerful.

1. I prefer the pictures of men who look as though they are simply contemplating the sad times in their lives (without tears) as opposed to the guys who DO look like they’re just acting with tears.

   I think it might have been more powerful to simply take photos of guys in prison or something showing true emotion.

   The Robert Downey Jnr photo makes me sick. It looks like some kind of egotistical soft-porn shot. ‘Look at me i’m beautiful and in pain’…

   Whatever.

   He has enough things to TRULY feel pain about without the posing.

1. The potency of these images possibly stems from a recognition of a rejection of the old fashioned steriotype of the stoic man; an antique from the Victorian age.

1. I only heard about this work a couple of days ago and have eventually got round to looking at it now.  I didnt think Id be as emotionally reached by it as I was, its a fantastic piece of work.  I especially like the pictures of Jude Law and Michael Madsen.  To follow up from what others have said about tears and acting it looks to me that the older actors in this work seem more heartfelt in their poses and that they are really thinking about something sad, not just acting like it
